Labuan Square or Dataran Labuan is situated in downtown Labuan. Besides a football field, the square features an open-air stage, the main venue for the island’s major events and performances.
Backing the stage is a raised platform with flags belonging to the 14 Malaysian states arranged in a semi-circle, as well as replicas of ‘The Chimney’, one of Labuan’s most famous landmarks.
The picturesque western end of Labuan Square is also beautifully landscaped with a variety of flowers, plants and fountains.
One of the main roads in downtown Labuan is Jalan Merdeka, which takes you right by the square. At the eastern end of this long road is the Dorsett Grand Labuan hotel as well as the Financial Park (Ujana Kewangan) complex. Just behind the square is the Labuan Musuem (Muzium Labuan).
The square is also located near the busy waterfront, which is always a hive of activity. You’ll find many eateries along this stretch specializing in Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine, as well as popular fast food outlets.
